How do i add extra simple IRA contributions for an employee in addition to their 3% contribution?

The employee is already participating in the standard 3% Simple IRA contributions, but wants to add an additional flat amount contribution from each pay check to the same Simple IRA. QBO Payroll does not appear to have this option within the original Simple IRA 3% settings. I also tried adding a 2nd Simple IRA deduction, but QBO Payroll won't allow more than 1.

How do i add extra simple IRA contributions for an employee in addition to their 3% contribution?

Hello there, foranfinancialservices.

Let me help you include the additional flat contribution your employee wants to make to their Simple IRA, so their request is handled efficiently and accurately.

To begin with, QuickBooks Online doesn't allow more than one Simple IRA deduction per employee. However, you can manually override the deduction amount each time you run payroll to include both the 3% and the additional flat amount.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and select Employees.
  2. Click Run Payroll.
  3. Select the pay period.
  4. Click Preview payroll.
  5. Locate the employee and click on their name
  6. Find the Simple IRA deduction and manually edit the amount to add the flat contribution on top of the calculated 3%
  7. Once done, click Save.
