How do i change the SDI limit for California? Or will it do it automatically on January 1st

Thanks for posting this in the Community, saenzroofingj.

State Disability Insurance (SDI) limit will automatically be updated as long as you're using the correct rate. As of January 1, 2018, the maximum limit for California SDI is $1,149.67.

You can visit the following link for more information about your state's disability tax rates and limits: QuickBooks Supported Disability Insurance Taxes.

I also recommend updating your tax table in QuickBooks Desktop. This will provide the most current and accurate rates and calculations for supported state and federal tax tables.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu
  2. Choose Get Payroll Updates.
  3. Select the Download Entire Update checkbox.
  4. Click Update.

Here's an article for more in-depth insight about the process of downloading the latest payroll tax table in QuickBooks Desktop.

How do i change the SDI limit for California? Or will it do it automatically on January 1st

I have tried updating several times after Jan 1st 2021 and Quickbooks is still showing the SDI rate of 1.0% and the annual taxable wage limit of 122,909.00. CA EDD shows us that the SDI rate should be 1.20% with the wage limit of $128,298.00. It appears that other info has updated correctly (Soc Sec wage limit 142,800.00). Why is the SDI not updating?!

Hello there, mikka1.

I appreciate your time in updating QuickBooks Desktop and the latest payroll tax table to get the updated rates. We are working to make the CA SDI rate and taxable wage limit changes as soon as possible. We apologize for the delay.

Here are a few links that you can check out for future reference:

How long this is going to take since we already are doing payroll and the calculations are wrong.

SDI is not calculating at 1.2. This could potentially create checks to be negative if QB will tried to catch up with the taxes.
