I’m happy to help you manually upload a .QFX file to QuickBooks, @jrdndmllr.

When manually uploading transactions in QuickBooks Online, make sure to review the file format and size. This is to seamlessly import transactions into QuickBooks Online.

To do this, open and examine the file from your bank. Make sure it's in the correct format before you upload it.

Then, keep in mind that the maximum file size is 350 KB. If the file is too big, shorten the date range and download transactions in smaller batches.

Once everything is accurate, you can start uploading the transactions. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Choose Upload transactions.
  3. Select Browse and then select the file you downloaded from your bank and click Next.
  4. In the QuickBooks account ▼  dropdown, choose the account you want to upload the transactions into and then click Next.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps and choose Next.
  6. Select the transactions you would like to import and click Next.
  7. Choose Yes.
  8. When you're ready, click Let's go.

Now that your transactions are in QuickBooks, it's time to match and categorize them. The transactions go into your accounts after you review them.

thank you for the tips! I worked through that and wasn't able to have any success.

Question - does it matter that I've already connected to the account for which I am trying to upload a .QFX file?

Take a look at the attached screenshot - does that message mean anything to you? Any thoughts on how to work around it? My file size is only 7KB so I know that's not it...

Thanks!

Hello, @jrdndmllr.

Let me share some troubleshooting steps to help resolved issue when importing your QFX file.

Manually importing the transactions for your connected bank account may result to duplicates. If this happens, you'd want to exclude the duplicate ones. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Choose the Banking section.
  3. Select the name of your connected bank.
  4. From the For Review tab, mark the boxes of the duplicate transactions.
  5. Click on Batch actions.
  6. Pick Exclude Selectedundefined

All of these duplicates will be transferred in the Excluded tab. If you wish to delete them, go to that tab and check the boxes of the transactions. Then, select Batch actions and then Delete. You can use this article for reference: How to Exclude Expenses from Downloaded Bank Transactions.

On the other hand, you'd want to make sure that the transaction list is not more than 1000 rows. Also, you'd want to make sure that your QFX file does not contain any of the following:

  • Special characters are not allowed
  • Zeros are not allowed anywhere
  • Correct and standardize the Date format to a single format

Meanwhile, you can refer to these articles as additional resources in importing your bank transactions using other file formats:
