How do I set up a cell phone "stipend" for the employee's personal phone business usage? I would like to set a fixed amount per paycheck on a non-taxable stipend.

I need to set up a recurring payroll "allowance" to pay for an employee's personal cell phone that they use for company purposes.  I need this to be a non-taxable amount.  I see a nontaxable per diem option currently, but I would like the pay stub to reflect "Cell Phone Allowance".  Can this be done?

Hi Phantom_QB,

You can use the Reimbursement pay type, change the name to "Cell Phone Allowance," and enter the recurring amount. Please see the attached screenshot. It's a nontaxable pay type item and it's not reported on the W-2 form.

If you want it to be reported on the employee's W-2, then you can use the Non-taxable Per Diem. However, you can't change its name. You can also ask for help from a payroll tax expert on how to set it up.

I'd suggest sending feedback to our development team about adding this nontaxable allowance pay type. You can use this link: http://feedback.qbo.intuit.com. Any feedback you can provide would be very appreciated.

Let me know if you have other questions. Thank you!
