How do I track Commission payments against a customer job?

Hello,

I use Quickbooks Online, and we are linked to our CRM software. Each customer is tracked in QB Online, and all jobs are tracked as sub-customers.  This way, we can easily track all income and expenses of each job, and just as easily for each customer (some customers have multiple jobs).

I use QB Payroll, and I want to pay our sales employees commission, while also recording the commission payment as an expense against the job/customer.  In QB Online Payroll, I see no option to link the commission payment to a customer or job.

How do I track Commission payments against a customer job?

I appreciate oy for providing us in-depth details of your concern, E DUWE.

The option to link the commission payment to a customer or job is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You'll want to create a journal entry for the commission accounts to apply to their respective jobs. Let me show you how:

  1. Click the + New button, then select Journal entry.
  2. On the page, choose the appropriate accounts from the drop-down.
  3. Fill out the necessary information.
  4. Click Save and close.

To learn more about this one, see the Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Online article. Also, I'd recommend consulting your accountant for more details on what are the posting accounts you'll need to apply in QBO. You might also want to check out this article to know how to pay commission separately from regular pay.

On the other hand, I find a related post where TECinc answered this one in detail. Just click this link to route you over: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/employees-and-payroll/re-how-do-i-record-commissio....

I'd like to know how you get on after trying the steps, as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Feel free to reply to this post and I'll get back to you. Take care always.
