How do you change an employees payroll deductions to after tax from pretax?

QuickBooks Desktop allows you to easily manage your payroll items. Thus, you can make use of the Edit Payroll Item option which can be found in your Payroll Item List.

You'll want to use the net pay option on your payroll item for the deductions to calculate after tax. I'll walk you through the steps on how to do it:

1. Go to Lists.
2. Choose Payroll Item List.
3. Locate the deduction item and double-click to open.
4. Click Next until you reach the Gross vs. net window.
   
5. From there, choose net pay, then click Next.
6. Hit Finish.
