How to activate a payroll subscription after hours

I purchased an Enhanced Payroll subscription from the Intuit website on Saturday.
I received a license number and product code. The website prompted me to activate the subscription by entering the company information. The first issue was that on the form to activate, I was limited to 15 characters for the legal name of the company. WHY? Certainly this is a bug!

I then tried to activate from within QuickBooks Pro 2021.... NOPE! The "Service Key" is invalid. I don't even know if I have the service key. Is the license number the same as the service key?

I can't "Install payroll from box" because I bought it from their stupid website.

I can't add an EIN in CAMPS because.... well... that tool sucks too.

Can't they get their act together? It's not possible to add an EIN in ANY SCREEN OR CAMPS website. WHY DO THEY MAKE THIS SO FREAKING ANNOYING AND DIFFICULT?

HOW DO I ACTIVATE THE LICENSE without calling? Why can't I activate from CAMPS. Why do they limit company legal name to 15 characters? WHY DO THEY MAKE ME CALL THEM TO DO ANYTHING WITH PAYROLL?

How to activate a payroll subscription after hours

Intuit has confirmed that IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ACTIVATE THE FIRST EIN using any methods already posted in this question or anywhere else on any Intuit website.

They are not open for 60 hours from Friday at 6pm to Monday at 6am. Therefore, you cannot buy a subscription over the weekend and use it immediately. You have to wait until Monday morning to use it.

If you really want to get this resolved, please let Intuit know that they have a system that DOES NOT WORK!

1. HOW DO I ACTIVATE THE LICENSE without calling?

2. Why can't I activate from CAMPS.

3. Why do they limit company legal name to 15 characters?

4. WHY DO THEY MAKE ME CALL THEM TO DO ANYTHING WITH PAYROLL?

1. You activate from within the program and with payroll added to desktop there should be 2 places  to manage your license,  one under employee tab and one under help. Under employee, payroll service is the activate service key. The subscription and service key are separate numbers and different than license and key for your actual QB program. Keys are 11 digits 4-4-4-3 unit segments. The key would be given to ypu in your purchase confirmation email.

2. It needs to be activated from within the program, even though you will log in to your Intuit account in the process.

3. Cannot answer, it might go back to days of old, pre 2000 when RAM was in short supply on computer chips and any place to save on space was necessary. You may not be old enough to recall when every computer in the world (except for apples) had to be updated to handle the transition to the year 2000 as going from 12/31/99 to 1/1/00 would have been a 100 year step back

Thank you for replying.

1) You can only "turn on" payroll with a subscription number or a service key. I don't  have either because I don't already have at least one company added to the subscription.

2) There is no way to add the first company.... ANYWHERE! If there is, please let me know. Otherwise, I have no subscription number and no service key.

3) I believe the "activation" of the first company that was offered to me immediately after purchase has a bug on the form whereby it limited me to 15 characters for the LEGAL name.

4) Can anyone answer the question as to WHY they make it so difficult to add the first company? Why can't I just go to CAMPS and manage the license?

Hi there, @arlinghaus.

I want to make sure this is taken care of, and I'd like to redirect you to the best support group available to get this addressed right away.

I understand that you don't want to call our support team with your license issue. However, they're the best support group that can handle the license number to use when activating a payroll subscription. For now, I highly suggest reaching out to our phone support team. This way, they can further check on your account and provide the correct license number you can use to activate your payroll subscription.

Here's how to get in touch with them:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your issue, then click Let's talk.
  4. Then choose your preferred way to connect with them.

Once you'll be able to activate your payroll subscription, you can check out this article to learn how to get started with QuickBooks Desktop payroll: Get started with Payroll.

Keep in touch if you need more help with your payroll issues, or if there's anything else I can do for you. Of course, I am always here ready to help you whenever you reach out.

How to activate a payroll subscription after hours

If you look at the subject of the original question... It says "how do I activate AFTER HOURS?"

Intuit closes for 60 hours over the weekend... I can't call! I can't chat. I can't leave a message. There's no way to use this until the call center opens.

That's why someone at Intuit needs to realize they have an issue. Quit selling subscriptions on the weekend if we can't use them!

Quit with the stupidity. It's just another case of someone creating a complicated system who has never tried to use it!

Have you the secret number to call over the weekend?
