How to import payroll with classes to QBDT

Greetings, @CRobarge.

Welcome, and thanks for dropping by the Community. I'm here to answer your question about importing payroll from Intuit Online Payroll (IOP) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Currently, you can only export and import payroll information from IOP to QBDT. The option to export class tracking via .IIF isn't supported.

To start, you will use the Export Preferences page in IOP to enter your QuickBooks accounts. Here's how:

  1. Go to Setup.
  2. In the Payroll and Services section, click Preferences.
  3. Pick QuickBooks Desktop for Windows (IIF) as your accounting software.
  4. Select Next to proceed.
  5. In the Checking Account field, enter only the name of the bank account exactly as it appears in your QuickBooks Chart of accounts.
  6. Tick OK and the default accounts listed will be created automatically in your QuickBooks.
  7. You also need to set up the following as necessary:
    1. Do you assign classes to transactions? Specify whether you use classes in your QuickBooks. If classes are selected, you can enter them on the next page after selecting OK.
    2. How will you print checks? We recommend that you print paychecks in your Intuit Online Payroll.
  8. Hit OK until your back to the Setup Overview page.

Once done, these are the steps you need to follow to import your payroll information to QBDT:

  1. Retrieve the .IIF File from your payroll software using the steps for your platform.
  2. Use the .IIF Import process to place your transaction information into QuickBooks Desktop.

You can check out this article and scroll down to the Import to QuickBooks Desktop section for the detailed steps on how to do it: Export Intuit Online Payroll transactions to QuickBooks for Windows or Mac (IIF). This article also contains answers to basic questions and performs tasks related to .IIF import/export processes.

I also recommend visiting our website for tips and other resources you can use for future reference: Self-help articles.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment in this thread if you have any other questions about exporting. I'm more than willing to help. Have a good one.
