I am interested in using the payroll feature again. I have not used it in over a year.

That's music to our ears, @todd37.

Based on your scenario, I take it that you've canceled your account before and you want to reactivate it now. Thus, the steps vary depending on the type of payroll subscription you previously have. I can share some steps and info to ensure you can reactivate your payroll subscription in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

If you have QBDT Payroll Enhanced, Standard, or Basic payroll before, you have a couple of ways to achieve this. Before doing so, please ensure you have a supported QBDT version.

First, you can do this through your company file. Here's how:

  1. Go to Employees at the top, and then select My Payroll Service.
  2. Choose Account/Billing Info.
  3. Sign in using your Intuit Account login
  4. Once there, select Resubscribe under Status.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to reactivate your payroll service.

The other way is through your Intuit account. Let me guide you how:

  1. Sign in to your account using your Intuit account like you normally would.
  2. Under Status, select Resubscribe.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to reactivate your payroll service.

Please take note that it may take up to 24 hours for the reactivation of your subscription to fully complete. You'll see the word Active once the reactivation is complete.

If you previously have QBDT Payroll Assisted, I recommend contacting our payroll support team for further assistance. For more details, please review this article: Reactivate your QuickBooks Payroll subscription.

Once successful, you can now review your payroll data, including employees and tax setup. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu at the top.
  2. Select the Employee Center.
  3. From the Employees tab, please review each employee. Check their info, including deductions, W-4, sick/vacation, etc.
  4. This time, go to Lists, and then Payroll Item List to review your payroll tax  items.

When you're ready, you can proceed with paying your employees as you normally would.

You can count on me if you have more questions about managing your account in QBDT. I'd be glad to hear more from you in the comment section. Take care and have a great day.
