Good day, camn21252.

Let me assist you in paying the federal unemployment tax.

We have to make sure that that payment you've made is reflecting on your account. If you made the payment outside QuickBooks, we need to record it manually.

  1. Go to the Taxes tab and select Payroll Tax.
  2. Select Pay Taxes. Next to the payment you want to pay, select Record Payment.
  3. Choose Click Record Payment.

Once done, process the payment again. Also, it's possible that this is due to a browser error since you verified that the state unemployment was paid already. You can follow these steps on how to fix it.

Let's start by using an incognito window and process the payment from there. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Mozilla: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Also, we can clear the cache since it can cause errors in QuickBooks Online. Additionally, make sure that the browser is updated. Use a different one if there's available.

Keep on posting here if you have more questions. Wishing you all the best!

I am having the same issue.  The state unemployment payment it wants me to create is one due at the end of the 4th qtr which isn't due until Jan/Feb 2021 and the qtr isn't done yet.  My third qtr is already paid.

Good Afternoon, @ddixon-tbsllc

Thanks for joining in on this thread. Let's work together and get this sorted out.

The amount your business would be paying in State Unemployment will ultimately determine your FUTA. This is why the message is appearing. The Federal Unemployment should always come after your State Unemployment because they directly affect each other. For your FUTA to be calculated correctly, the amount due for State Unemployment will need to be paid first.

However, if your FUTA is due before the State Unemployment is due, then I recommend getting in touch with your state about ensuring that your filing frequency is correct based on the total amounts you're paying out for payroll.
