I am usually able to change Fed & State Tax #s before running payroll. Tonight they are prefilled with different #s than usual (greyed out). How do I change these #s?

Hi there, ccc1996.

Generally, when a user encounters unexpected behavior, we can perform basic browser troubleshooting to fix the issue.

As we use our regular browsers to surf different websites, it stores temporary internet files for quicker loading and displaying of web content. At times, it will accumulate and corrupts the browser cache, causing some features to malfunction and runtime errors.

You can follow the steps that I've listed below:

  1. Access your QuickBooks account in a private/incognito browser. You can use the shortcut keys that I've listed below.

    • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
    • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
    • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

  2. Once you're in, let's try to run a payroll to check if the Tax Number field isn't greyed out. If we're able to edit it the field, we'll have to go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to get rid of the accumulated site data.

  3. If the same thing happens, we can use other supported browsers. It could be that the one you're currently working on has a temporary issue with QuickBooks.

In case you want to get a closer look at your business's finances, you can run the payroll reports to view useful information about your business and employees.

Let me know how the steps go, as I want to ensure that you'll be able to edit your tax number upon running your payroll.
