I called intuit 2 times, both times, the support person hung up on me. I cannot get the check to be aligned

ever since I switch to online, the check never prints correctly. I tried the setting to adjust, and it only got worse. I called the support 2 times, both times, the support person hung up on me.

Getting into this type of situation isn't the type of experience that we want you to have with our customer support, annanderic.

I'll send feedback about what you've shared here in the Community about your experience when contacting our phone support. We'll take this opportunity to better help our customers in a timely and efficient manner in the future.

Let me make it up by sharing these steps with you that can resolve alignment issues when printing checks:

Make sure your Adobe Reader is set up correctly and updated

  1. Download the latest version of Adobe Reader, or update it
  2. After updating Adobe Reader, set it as the default PDF viewerfor your browser.
  3. Print a sample check to test if its working fine.

If you're getting a similar result, proceed to the steps below:

  1. Go to the Print checks setup window. Then, select No, continue setup at the bottom right, twice until you get to Fine-tune alignment page.
  2. Drag the grid inside the large square to the place where it appears on your printout. QuickBooks Online will figure out how to adjust the alignment.Note: QuickBooks Online uses the numbers on the vertical and horizontal to figure where exactly to print the check amount. These numbers change whenever you drag the grid.
  3. After adjusting the grid, print another sample check to test if the alignment is already okay. Continue to fine-tune until the check is correctly aligned.
  4. Select View preview and print sample in the lower left, and choose Print icon at the top right.
  5. After the sample is printed on plain paper, hold it up to the light against a check and see if the alignment is correct.
  6. If you still need to do some fine tuning, close the sample and then go back to the grid to make adjustments, then print a fresh sample.
  7. Select Finish Setup when your sample’s alignment looks correct.
  8. Apply the following changes:Note: Changes should apply to most printer versions – make changes for the options you see below.
    • Page Scaling: set to None
    • Auto-Rotate and Center must not be checked.
    • Make sure that Choose Paper Source by PDF size is check.
    • If you’re using Adobe Acrobat, these options are slightly different:
      1. Under Page Size & Handling
        • Select Actual Size
        • Select Choose paper source by PDF size
      2. Under Orientation
        • Select Auto portrait/landscape

Additional troubleshooting steps can also be found here: Fix QuickBooks Online Printing Issues On Browsers For Windows.

Lastly, it's recommended to use a QuickBooks-compatible checks. This is to ensure that there aren't any alignment issues when printing the transaction in QBO. Please visit the Intuit Market for additional details.

Keep me posted if you still need additional help. The QuickBooks Team is always here to offer our assistance.

I called intuit 2 times, both times, the support person hung up on me. I cannot get the check to be aligned

Hi, I have done all the steps you mentioned.

I will try again when I have some quiet time. It has been ongoing for 2 years, I just don't have time to deal with it.

if it still does not work, what do I do?

My checks are PURCHASED from intuit and they are your checks

It used to be that I would hear " you are the priority customer..." when I called, but the service I got has been beyond disappointing. Your agents lack knowledge, has no ability to answer questions. Intuit really should record and monitor these support calls to find out the truth. Most of the time, I had to teach the agent. Now, the latest tactic was mid-conversation, sudden silence and they hung up the phone. Thank goodness you have the idea of developing the community for other users to help.

    • In your Chrome browser, select the menu icon below the X button.
    • Click on Settings and choose Advanced.
    • Choose Content settings and click on PDF documents.
    • Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome should be turned off.
  9. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  10. Click on Align Checks.

You can read through this article for more detailed instructions: How to align preprinted paychecks.

If the issue persists, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. It’s possible there’s a specific setup for your printer that we'll need to further check using secured remote access.

We are having the same issue with checks printing, and can't find any "Preferences" tab in the current Quickbooks Online.  The only options are to print an alignment page, and the letters given to align the payee name do not go far enough to the right.  There is no option to custom align any text.

Thanks for joining us today, @Cables_and_Volts.

I have some information about the aligning checks in QBO. You can find the Paycheck Printing link under the Preferences section (see the attached image below).

In your case, you'll want to follow these steps to set up check alignment. Here's how:

  1. Select Open Alignment Window, then print the sample check.
  2. Follow the instructions, then close the window.
  3. Tick Align Checks, then print the PDF file.
  4. Follow the instructions, then enter the letter and number that fits best.
  5. Click Update Settings, then OK.
