Hello, Samantha.

I'll share some details about managing your sales tax payments and their corresponding frequencies in QuickBooks.

Currently, we're unable to record the sales tax payments according to the fiscal year. The system will always follow the regular calendar method for sales taxes.

However, I'll share some workarounds to help you manage your sales taxes by fiscal year.

You'll want to set the start date of your sales taxes according to the beginning of the fiscal year (July 1st in your case). Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to Taxes, then click the Sales tax tab.
  2. Click the Sales Tax Settings button.
  3. Under Tax agencies, find your agency then click Edit
  4. Set the Start date to July 1st.
  5. Click Save

As mentioned before, the system will always use the calendar method. However, you can still record your payments by clicking on the View Tax Return button.

In addition, I'd also recommend pulling up the Sales Tax Liability report and set the dates to your fiscal year to see the current liabilities within the fiscal year period.

On the Sales tax page, click the Reports drop-down menu then select Tax liability Report

I would also recommend contacting your state's sales tax agency and check to see if they can let you switch to the calendar year in filing and paying your taxes.

This way, you would be able to record your payments in parallel to the tax periods in QuickBooks.

I'll also recommend sending feedback to our developers regarding the option to pay and record your tax payments according to your fiscal year. Click on the Gear icon, then select Feedback

Our developers will take a look at your inputs and might consider them for future improvements on the Sales Tax feature.
