I get the employer side contributing to ss, medicare, ui, etc, but I can not figure out why per pay period so much is being taken out via Federal Taxes (941/944).

Federal income taxes are calculated based on the employee's W4 information and gross wages, mattheikkila.

You can go to the employee's set up to check if there's something that's causing the miscalculation. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Workers menu and proceed to the Employees tab.
  2. Click the name of the employee.
  3. Click the Pencil icon beside Pay.
  4. Review the details in the withholding, pay schedule, and pay types.

I would also recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. They can help you review the amounts to check what's causing the issue. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and click Contact Us.
  2. Let the know that you that you need help with your 941 taxes, then click Let's talk.
  3. Select the Chat or Get a callback option.

Please reply below if you have follow-up or any other questions. We're always here to guide and assist you while working in QuickBooks.
