I had an employee in October that there were no federal tax with held. FritzF (Moderator) responded. Unfortunately, everything he mentioned did not solve the problem?

I also mentioned, that this employee had a raise in Oct as well as a job description name change. Just in case it helps solve my problem. I'm still at a loss?

Hello @jameshennessy3,

Let me help share information about the things you need to consider which will affect the calculation of your employee federal taxes.

When you enter W4 employee details in the payroll system, federal taxes are calculated not with a fixed rate. But consider taking note of the following information and making sure they are accurate for the correct calculation of your employee's taxes:

  • Taxable wages
  • Number of allowances/dependents
  • Pay frequency
  • Filing status

Additionally, you might also find this article helpful in preparing the payment of your taxes and filing them to your agency: Pay and file payroll taxes online.

If there's anything else that I can help you with aside from your payroll tax calculation, please let me know in the comments. Stay safe!

Nothing works - I have tried to schedule a callback, but I can't even get that to work. Since there is nothing that allows me to click on to schedule a call back?

Thanks for coming back, @jameshennessy3.

The employee tax withheld depends on how the payroll is set up. Since you've already checked, I'd suggest reaching out to our Customer Care Team using our QuickBooks Online Sample Account. They'll be able to perform a screen share and identify the root cause and create an investigation if necessary.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://qbo.intuit.com/redir/testdrive_us_advanced.
  2. Choose Help at the top, then select Contact Us
  3. Type your concern in the description field and hit Continue
  4. Pick either Get a callback or Schedule appointment.
  5. Complete the required information, then submit the request.

Please request a callback during our business hours. This ensures our agents can reach out to you as soon as they're available. Our support team is open from Monday-Friday 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM and Saturday 6:00 AM - 1:00 PM Pacific Time.

You can always run payroll reports to review the wages, information, and any more by customizing. Click the Save customization button, so it'll be saved on your Custom reports tab. It helps you quickly run the report in the future. To learn more about this process, visit this article: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, you can visit this article on how to check the employee's annual wage base limits in your account.

Please let me know how the call goes or if you have any further questions. I'm always here to help. Take care always.
