Welcome to the Community, support.

Let's go back to the 1099 Wizard page and map your contractor's transactions to box 1.

  1. On the left panel, hover your mouse on Workers, and click on Contractors.
  2. Click on Prepare 1099s.
  3. To begin, select Let's get started
  4. Fill in the necessary information for section 1.
  5. On section 2, click on Box 1. Note that you need to enter the expense account used for these payments.
  6. Select Next to continue.
  7. Review the information on the1099. Once done, click on Finish preparing 1099s.
  8. On the next page, choose which option you'd like for the filing.

Be careful about doing what a subcontractor wants as opposed to what is legal.  Box 1 is usually only for rent paid.

Yes, be very careful. Many times rent, as in for farmland, or duplexes is not subject to self-employment tax. Certain contract work, such as renting a bulldozer with operator to clear land is considered Box 1 rent. But not all Box 1 rent is exempt from SE tax. You alone as the payor know if it is rent or not and only rent, as far as I can tell, goes in Box 1
