Once you update QuickBooks, your company file should not be removed. This usually happens because of the following reasons:
- Your company file was moved or renamed.
- Your computer is disconnected from the path where the QuickBooks file is located.
- Your QuickBooks file has been deleted from your computer.
To fix this, I'd recommend performing a wild card search in your server computer. This will locate all your company files and retrieve them.
- Go to the Windows or Start Menu.
- Search or directly type in either *.qbw (Working Files) or *.qbb (Back-Up Files).
- Select Open File Location.
Once the file is found, you can now open or restore it in QuickBooks. To open your company file, here's how:
- Go to the File menu.
- Select Open or Restore Company.
- Choose Open a Company File.
- Click Next.
- Select the company file.
- Click Open.
To restore a backup file, kindly refer to these steps:
- Go to the File menu.
- Select Open or Restore Company.
- Choose Restore a Backup File.
- Click Next.
- Select Local backup.
- Choose the company file, then select Next.
- Select the location where you’d like to save the restored file.
- Click Save.
