Hello, @christine-mansue.
If you're trying to process a direct deposit payroll, you need to submit your payroll on the right day to pay your employees on time. The funding time maybe 1-day lead time (same-day direct deposit) or 5-day lead time depending on the products your using.
A 1-day lead time requires you to submit your payroll before 5:00 PM PST 1 business day before payday. Thus, a 5-day lead time needs you to submit your payroll before 5:00 PM PST 5 business days before payday. If payday is on a Friday, you’ll need to submit payroll the Friday before payday.
On the other hand, if you're processing a regular check, you can create payroll whenever you want, depending on the employees' payroll schedules.
To run payroll in QBO:
- Log in to your QBO account, then tap on Workers at the left pane.
- Select Employees.
- Click on Run payroll.
- Chose a pay schedule, then Continue.
- Select the employees you want to pay.
- Verify if you have selected the correct bank account, pay period, and pay date. You can also modify them as needed.
- Change the employee's payment method as needed.
- Enter hours worked if applicable. You can hide or show pay types by selecting the Gear icon below the TOTAL PAY.
- Select Preview Payroll.
- To edit or preview a specific check, select the Edit icon next to the check's net pay, then select OK when done.
- When you're ready, select Submit payroll.
- You're all set! To print paychecks, select Print paychecks, then Finish payroll.
