I want to set up payroll so that hours worked over 40 in a workweek are automatically calculated as overtime when payroll is run. What are the steps to automate this?

There are no steps to automate this. No version of QB payroll will automatically calculate OT. I think it is mainly because there are many different OT rules across the country.

 

In some places OT is anything over 8 in a single day. And in our case with biweekly pay if an employee works 35 and 45 hours yet for the pay period we enter 80, the required OT of 5 would not get caught.

So, while it would be a great feature and time saver it apparently to date has never been a priority. If the feature were available you would be required to use time sheet entry I am certain, which might take you longer than just entering the proper totals
