If I have an employee that lives in iowa and the business we have is in Wisconsin why do I need an IA Employer Acct number? How can I get one?

Account number is required so that you can file taxes, kielerkelly.

 

A state Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Employer Account Number (EAN) is a number assigned by a state government to an employer in order to track:

  • payroll tax liabilities and remittances
  • unemployment insurance liability

You'll have to sign up for your state website to get the number. If you don't have a number, you can visit the State Payroll Tax Compliance for registration information or contact information to find out your account number from the state.

Once you already have the account number, you can update that by going to the Gear icon and select Payroll settings. Let me show you how:

  1. From the Gear icon, then choose Payroll Settings.
  2. Under Taxes, select State Taxes.
  3. Enter your state account number.
  4. Select OK.
