If I missed a quarter one 2026 payroll, how do I pay retroactively?

I have another business that is on Quickbooks that pays montlhy and I have been doing this since early 2026. I am employer / employee of another business (S Corp) that I will pay myself quarterly. I got behind and did not purchase and set up QB basic + payroll until today. I need to go back and pay myself and the IRS for the first quarter. ALSO there is no choice for quarterly payments. Help?

Hi there, @SSA-LBW. For a missed tax quarter payment, you have the option to make a late payment directly to the IRS, then record it in QuickBooks Online (QBO) payroll to avoid reflecting dues.

Go back to your Quarter 1 payrolls and finalized them. After that, proceed to paying your taxes. However, you should expect penalties for late filing payments. You can follow the instructions of the IRS in this link: https://www.irs.gov/payments/penalties

After that, record it in QB. Since the payment isn't showing on your end, please add a prior tax payment by going to All apps > Payroll > Payroll Taxes > Payments > Record tax payments (prior tax history) > Add Payment > pick Tax type > Submit Payment.

Thus, the filing and payments for the first quarter of this year are still due this month. If you choose to set up your QBO payroll account, you can still file and e-pay them.

Please check this article for more information: Pay and file payroll taxes and forms electronically in QuickBooks Online Payroll.
