If I missed the estimated tax deadline on April 15th (because I thought it was also extended like regular tax deadline) should I just pay it now and have it be late?

It's best to make a payment as soon as possible, stefanie-mclaren.

The penalties and interest the IRS charges depend on how much you owe and how late you are, but you can minimize the damage by making your payment as soon as possible. You'll want to make a late payment and follow these steps from the IRS. Moreover, if you'll want to make a payment you can follow either of the two options below.

If you pay by mail, send your payment and estimated payment form (1040-ES voucher) together. You can complete this form in QuickBooks Self-Employed:

  1. In QuickBooks Self-Employed, go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select the Quarterly Taxes tab.
  3. Select Pay Now.
  4. Select the By mail option.
  5. Fill out the 1040-ES payment voucher. Then select Continue.
  6. Print your voucher.

The printed voucher tells you how to fill out your forms, check, and which IRS office to mail it to. Your check and voucher must be postmarked by the quarterly due date.

If you want to pay online, sign up for an Electronic Federal Tax Payment System account:

  1. Learn about basic enrollment requirements.
  2. Go to the EFTPS website.
  3. Select Enroll.
  4. Follow the steps to enroll as an individual.

The IRS will send your PIN and enrollment number by US mail. You need this info to sign in and make payments. Once you have your PIN and enrollment number, you can make online payments.

Hello, stefanie-mclaren.

Thank you for getting back to us. No, you don't have to mail the 1040-ES once you paid it online.

Please refer to Form 1040-ES instructions for a detailed discussion of the Estimated Tax Payment.

Additionally, to check the status of your payment made, you can refer to this article:  Pay federal estimated quarterly taxes in QuickBooks Self-Employed

Keep me posted if you still need help when working in QBSE. I’m more than happy to assist further. Enjoy the rest of the day.

I just missed the Q4 taxes on January 18th because I just have received my pin and make a password with EFTPS and it is my first time but I want to pay online but there is no button to press pay now anymore! Would I press the pay now for Q1 and put other amount? I’m really confused

Thanks for joining this thread, @Kageraposey20. Let me provide some information about paying taxes.

If it's already a late payment, you can pay Q4 in IRS. For detailed steps, please see the steps in this link: https://www.irs.gov/payments/penalties.

Then, you can use the PIN for Q1 when you pay Online. Please utilize this resource for the detailed steps: Pay federal estimated quarterly taxes in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Additionally, I've attached an article that talks about how estimated taxes are calculated and tracked in QuickBooks:

Keep me posted if you have other questions about paying taxes. I'll be happy to help. Stay safe!
