.IFF file import fail

Hi!

So I have NEVER had this happen before....but when I when to import my payroll .IFF file I got a pop-up window stating that 1 file (of 38 files), was not imported.  No Reason.  Nothing.

They created a new file to record the error and I have an option to 'Open it to fix the errors', then re-import it.  But I can even get it open....I've tried EVERYTHING.  It won't let me open it to look outside of QB because 'This is a QB file.  Only openable in QB'....but when I go to open it in QB, it thinks I'm try to import it again, and create Another Error folder.

Help Please!

This is the error I get when I try to import it into QB.

.IFF file import fail

Hi, Adrienne1234.

Thank you for coming out to the QuickBooks Community. I found an applicable work around that will help with resolving your problem today. Keep in mind you have to be in Single-User Mode when importing this way.

  1. Go to File
  2. Select Utilities
  3. Select Import then IIF Files.
  4. Select Import it for me. I’ll fix later.

This will allow you to import the .IIF without QuickBooks doing the usual check for the file. Our IIF Overview, is a great resource as well. If you have any questions on importing IIF, I'm here to assist. Just simply reply below at any time to contact me. Have a great day!

The reason is embedded in the file referenced in the dialog window in your screenshot.

But @MaulikH  is right.  The new import is so buggy, restrictive, and error prone that the best method for importing is is to bypass it.

I've tried all the suggestions given and still get the message:

Problem:

You are trying to open a QuickBooks file.  Only QuickBooks

company files can be opened in this way.

I've attached the file in question

Thanks for posting in the Community, 1stHunt.

I can guide you in resolving this issue for you.

The error happens when the .iif file is changed to another application aside from MS Excel. Please ensure that the file you want to import is QuickBooks supported files. If need to edit some information, you can open it through MS Excel. I'll show you how.

  1. In Microsoft Excel, go to File and click Open.
  2. In the File type dropdown, select All Files.
  3. Choose the IIF file you want to edit, then hit Open.
  4. In the Text Import Wizard, click Next, then Next and Finish.
  5. Make the changes to your IIF file.
  6. Go to the File menu, select Save, then Yes.
  7. Exit Excel. You'll get a prompt to save the IIF again. Choose Don't Save.

You can check this guide for your reference: Export, import, and edit IIF files.
