Is it an issue that my wife is using Quickbooks Self Employed under my previous intuit account and name for her business tracking?

We are trying to keep our Quickbooks Self Employed and our past Turbotax accounts all under the same intuit account.  This is the first year for my wife's self employment and we have always filed jointly.  Questioning if all of the data from Quickbooks Self Employed gets automatically uploaded into Turbotax at the end of the year, or will I be manually transferring the data from Quickbooks into the correct spouses income fields in Turbotax?

Thanks for visiting us here in the Community, blnash12. I'd be happy to answer your post.

If the QuickBooks Self-Employed account of your wife is under standalone subscription in which both of you are filing jointly, all you need to do is to manually enter the data of your wife to your TurboTax account.

However, if the QuickBooks Self-Employed account of your wife is Tax Bundle, your wife will be the one who will be entering the data to file it jointly.

Therefore, using a previous intuit account is not an issue, as long as you have entered information correctly for both since everything is dependent on who owns the TurboTax account which will be used upon filing taxes.

Keep me posted if you have any other follow up questions, I'm always here to answer any questions you may have. Have a great day!

Thank you MirriamM,

In an effort to keep all of our tax info together we opened the Quickbooks Self Employed, that my wife is entering her data into, with MY existing Intuit account.  It is a Tax Bundle version so from what you mentioned it looks like she will be the one who will be entering the data to file it jointly.

Though my wife is using the Quickbooks to log her data for the first time this year, it currently has my name at the top since we opened the Quickbooks account this year from MY existing Intuit account.  Do we need to update the name on our intuit account to my wife's name to have the Quickbooks Self Employed program more accurately show that it is for her business, or is that a non issue?

Thank you!

Hi there, blnash12.

Thank you for visiting here in the Community.

Yes, you'll have to update the registered name in QB to your wife's name. This is for filing purposes to confirm that the account is for her business.

I'll be glad to provide steps and screenshots.

Here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon at the top right.
2. Under About you, select Intuit Account.
3. You'll be route into the Intuit Account Setting and Personal info page.
4. Click Edit at the right corner under Name.
5. Enter the updated name. ( Wife's name)
6. Click the Save button.
