Is payroll QBO in hour format or decimal format?

Hello there, @sonya3.

Let me share some information about entering hours and minutes in QuickBooks Online.

The right format for entering time is in an hour format. This applies to fields that require hours, such as timesheets and paychecks.

For invoices, QuickBooks will convert the time to decimals since Quantity is the only available column. For example, instead of 1:30, the system will change it to 1.50.

Also, I’m adding this article you can check about setting up employee’s time off in QuickBooks Online: Set up and track time off in payroll.

I'll be here if you need anything else. Thanks!

If what you stated holds true, can you help me understand why the "Time Activities by Employee Detail" report is shown in decimal?

It appears desktop is able to make the change:

Entering time in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll changes to decimal or minutes format

Good catch, @Tiffiny Taylor Krugh.

Time entry in QuickBooks Online will show in decimal format in the report. Some features in QuickBooks Desktop is not available in QuickBooks Online, and one of these is the option to show the portion of an hour as decimal or minutes.

The details are found in the article you've attached. I'll also share with you our page about reviewing and filing your federal forms which I'm sure you'll find helpful. It contains details that'll guide you in preparing your tax forms.

Stay in touch if you have other questions or concerns. We're always here to lend a hand. Thanks for posting and I wish you have a wonderful rest of the week.

Not sure this is correct?

This thread seems to suggest that Hrs:Mins should be entered which I believe is incorrect???

In QBO Payroll when I enter:

Hourly Pay as 10.30 (Actual Hrs & Mins worked) @£8.72 = Gross Pay £89.82

Which is actually correct for 10.30 (Decimal) not 10:30 (Hrs:Mins) @£8.72.

10.50 (Decimal)  @£8.72 = Gross Pay £91.56

When I need to convert decimals to hours I just use this site:

Not ideal but it would be helpful if QB online gave users to ability to switch time format.

Just divide Minutes by 60 for decimal for quick conversion.
