Welcome to the Community, @kevin48.

Can you share with me if there are any error codes showing along with the alerts? Any additional information you can add will help ensure a timely solution.

We can start the troubleshooting by running the reboot.bat file to help narrow down the cause of these unexpected behaviors. This process allows the system to re-register the QuickBooks-related.DLL and.OCX files in Microsoft Windows.

Here's how:

  1. Right click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop, and select Properties.
  2. Click on Open file location.
  3. Type "reboot.bat" in the search field (at the upper right corner).
  4. Right click the reboot.bat file and choose Run as Administrator. The file may display as reboot.bat or reboot.
  5. When the reboot.bat file utility has completed, the window will close.

For future reference, check out the Fix error when updating Desktop or Payroll article. It provides detailed instructions you can follow to update payroll successfully.

I want to make sure this is taken care of for you. If you have any other concerns, post a comment below. I’ll pop right back in to assist further. Have a good one.

Hi Julie.

I have some additional troubleshooting steps you can perform to update your payroll tax table in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I'm here to share and guide you with the process.

First, I recommend updating your QBDT to the latest release to keep your software updated and free from any issues. Here's how:

  1. Close your company files and QuickBooks.
  2. Open the Windows Start menu.
  3. Search for QuickBooks Desktop. Right-click the icon and select Run as administrator.
  4. While on the No Company Open screen, go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  5. Go to the Options tab. Select Mark All and then select Save.
  6. Go to the Update Now tab and select the Reset Update checkbox.
  7. When you're ready, select Get Updates.

After that, you can edit or re-enter your payroll service key to refresh your payroll subscription.

  1. Open your QBDT file.
  2. Go to the Employees tab, then click on My Payroll Service.
  3. Click on Manage Service Key.
  4. Hit Edit, then re-enter your service key.
  5. Select Next and then Finish.

From there, you're now ready to update your payroll tax table version.

  1. From the Employees tab, click on Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Select the Download Entire Update checkbox.
  3. Select Download Latest Update or Download. An informational window appears when the download is complete.

I paid for renewal but never received updated service key info. Now I am showing the subscription expired and have no key to enter. Can you email the info to me?

Thank you for letting us know, seiinc.

I'd like to help and make sure that you'll get your payroll service key.

If you didn't receive the service key through your email, you can use our Automated Service Key Retrieval tool. You just need to do is sign in to your Intuit account.

Once you have the service key, you can now enter it in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
  2. Go to the Employees menu.
  3. Choose My Payroll Service, then Manage Service Key.
  4. Click on Edit button and enter the new service key.
  5. Select Next and then Finish.
  6. When the Payroll Update message appears, select OK.
  7. Verify the Service Status shows Active and then select OK.

After that, don't forget to restart your QuickBooks. This will help refresh all information for your payroll service.
