liability checks: I had wrong tax rate for state unemployment now i need to edit a liability check

The liability tax number was 188.74 in quickbooks.  The correct tax rate liability number was 164.01 which was paid.  The tax rate has been corrected in quickbooks.  I need to edit the check to reflect 164.01 being the correct amount due and the correct amount paid.  Quickbooks won't let me.

Can I delete the first check and reenter the proper amount?

It seems reasonable but I don't want more headaches as I'm not a quickbooks expert.  If I delete the check is it possible to go back to first quarter liabilites and see the new

It seems reasonable but I don't want more headaches as I'm not a quickbooks expert.  If I delete the check is it possible to go back to first quarter liabilites and see the new  adjusted amount due of 164.01?

Update:  I deleted the check but when I go back to tax liability payment page it still has 188.74 due.

Not sure what to .

Thanks

Hello there, @bdental. I appreciate you performing some steps to resolve the issue and providing detailed information.

To fix the issue that you have, you'll need to make an employee adjustment with a negative amount since taxes won't auto-correct after changing the rate.

To adjust payroll liabilities, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Click the Employees menu at the top and select Payroll Taxes and Liabilities
  2. Choose Adjust Payroll Liabilities
  3. Pick Employee Adjustment
  4. Select the employee.
  5. Complete the Taxes and Liabilities fields and enter a negative amount for the adjustment.
  6. Choose the Accounts Affected.
  7. Tap OK.

To learn more about this process, check this article: Adjust payroll liabilities in QuickBooks Desktop.

You Rock!!!!!!

Thank you.  Problem fixed.  My accountant couldn't fix it.  He doesn't mess with payroll functions much.
