MA Covid-19 Recovery Assessment is not calculating

Glad to have you here, @Fenway64

I'm here to share some information on why MA Covid-19 Recovery Assessment is not calculated. Your updated Solvency Fund, new COVID-19 Recovery Assessment tax rates, and Q1 and Q2 amounts to pay are available by logging into the Massachusetts DUA website. You’ll need to make the payment directly to MA DUA.

Here are the possible reasons why it's not correctly calculated:

To fix this, you’ll have to revisit your employees’ profiles if they are set up accurately. For more insights, please see this article: Set up and manage MA COVID-19 Recovery Assessment Tax.

Thank you for following up, Fenway64.

It's possible that you've saved payroll prior to downloading a payroll update This may cause taxes to calculate incorrectly or zero. Let me help to make sure taxes calculates when running payroll in QuickBooks Desktop.

To ensure all payroll taxes calculates, log in as admin and update QuickBooks to it's latest release. After that, download the latest payroll update again. Once done, go back to the payroll processing window and revert the employee's paycheck.

To revert your paychecks:

  1. Go to Employees menu.
  2. Choose Pay Employees, then Scheduled Payroll or  Resume Scheduled Payroll.
  3. Right-click on the employee name you wish to revert (It's usually highlighted in yellow).
  4. Select Revert Paycheck.

This will now sync all payroll updates apply the correct tax calculations.

If the issue still persists, I suggest reaching our Payroll Team to investigate why it's not calculating properly.

Please let me know how it goes or if you still have questions about payroll taxes. I'll be here to answer them. Have a great day!

Perhaps, you don't understand.  This p/r tax has been added to QB file for months...  IT HAS NEVER CALCUATED ANYWHERE.  It's not one paycheck or one payroll.  It has NEVER worked.  Thank you :)

Thank you for getting back to us, @Fenway64.

I understand that the tax never calculates in your payroll. As mentioned by one of my colleagues, @Archie_B, you need to update QuickBooks to the latest release. This way, you can ensure all features work.

Then, download the most recent payroll update once more. Return to the payroll processing window and revert the employee's paycheck.

If the problem persists, I recommend contacting our Payroll Team to know why it isn't calculating correctly.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu.
  3. Choose Contact Us.
  4. Click Continue once you've entered your problem.
  5. Select a method of communication with us:
  • Start messaging with a support expert.
  • Get a callback from an expert (availability may be limited).

You’ll want to ensure your payroll items are set up accordingly. This way, QuickBooks provides the correct calculation of your withholding when running the Payroll Liability report for the MA Covid-19 Recovery Assessment. You can follow the steps below to check the items:

  1. Go to Lists, then select Payroll Item List.
  2. Right-click the item and select Edit Payroll Item.

You can use this information to learn more about why QuickBooks has incorrect calculations: QBDT calculates wages and/or payroll taxes incorrectly.

However, if the setup is correct, I'd recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. They can check your account securely and provide other steps to fix the calculation in your report. You may follow the steps shared by my colleague or click this link: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.
