Maryland Income Tax Filings not listed under "filings"

My employees' Income Tax withholding amounts are being paid to the State of Maryland, but there is no record of any kind of form being filed under the "Filings" tab. There are Federal Form 941 filings and Pennsylvania Income tax filings, and Maryland Unemployment tax filings, but nothing for Maryland income tax. There have been over $30,000 in payments made to Maryland Income Tax because  most of our employees reside in Maryland. There are even filings in the amount of $0 for the West Virginia because we don't have any employees residing there any more. Where can I find these filed Maryland forms which are required to be submitted for PPP loan forgiveness.

Maryland Income Tax Filings not listed under "filings"

Hello there, @jmcintosh.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll, both federal and state tax forms are stored under the Forms column in the Payroll Tax tab from the Taxes menu. Then, when you're able to file your Maryland (MD) Income Tax form through the system, you should be able to view and print them through the View and Print Archive Forms option. This way, you can submit the MD forms needed for PPP loan forgiveness. Let me guide you how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select the Payroll Tax tab.
  3. Go to the Forms column.
  4. Choose either the Quarterly Forms or Annual Forms option.
  5. Find and select the MD form (i.e. Form MW508) you want.
  6. Select the View button to print.

I've attached screenshots below that show the last two steps.

You can also pull up several payroll reports that you can use to get a closer look at your business expenses and employee record. For the complete list, I'd recommend checking out this article: Run payroll reports. It also includes steps about printing, customizing, and marking them as your favorite.

Additionally, here's an article that ensures compliance with your state's payroll tax regulations: Maryland Payroll Tax Compliance. It also contains details on tax forms, withholdings, unemployment, e-file and pay, general state and agency information, and employer registration.

Please know that you're always welcome to comment below if you have other concerns or follow-up inquiries about managing your payroll forms and taxes in QBO Payroll. I'm just around to help. Take care.

Thank you for your reply, but I do not have the options you shared in your screenshots.

When I follow your instructions:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select the Payroll Tax tab.

I do not have a "Forms Column." I have a choice of "Payments" or "Filings"  as you can see from in the screenshot below:

When I click on "Tax payment history" I can see that my Maryland Income Taxes have been paid as you can see at the bottom of the screenshot below:

The only option with "Forms" in the title is "Archived Forms" under the "Filings" tab.

When I click on "Archived Forms" and choose "Quarterly Tax Forms" there is no option for Maryland Income Tax as shown in the screenshot below: (MD DLLR/OUI 15 is Unemployment insurance)

Thanks for getting back to to this thread with additional information , jmcintosh.

It looks like you're using the QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium or Full Service Payroll subscription based on the screenshots that you shared of your Payroll Center.

Because of this, I would recommend reaching out to our Payroll Support Team. They can pull up your account and check why you can't see any record of Maryland income tax payments or filings. Here's how:

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right hand corner.
  2. Type in "Talk to a human", then press Enter.
  3. Look for I still need a human and click on it.
  4. Click Contact Us.
  5. Select between Send a messageSchedule an appointment, or Get a callback.

I'd also like to share these articles that will link you to some of our payroll guides and quick links for additional reference:
