Maryland State Payroll Tax payments rejected this month

Our Maryland State Payroll Tax payments this month were rejected with the Issue listed as "FEIN and CRN combination does not match the account. We have not changed any account information so do not know what the problem would be.  We have occasionally had rejected payments which appeared to be a problem at with the State of Maryland.   We did "Void" the initial rejections and resubmitted the payments, only to have them rejected for the same reason again.  So is this a QuickBooks Payroll issue or a State of Maryland issue?   Neither one is easy to access for Customer Service.

Maryland State Payroll Tax payments rejected this month

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, plpalmer. I appreciate your detailed information.

If the tax payment was rejected due to "Account number is invalid or incorrect", this means either your Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) or state account numbers are incorrect in QuickBooks and don’t match what the agencies have on file for your business.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Check the EIN and state account number you have on file in QuickBooks. If they're incorrect, make the necessary updates.
  2. In the event a tax form was rejected, resend your form.
  3. If a tax payment was rejected, you'll need to contact the IRS or state agency to transfer your payment to the correct account number.

I've also included a detailed resource about working with e-pay rejections which may come in handy moving forward: Handle payroll e-file & e-pay rejections

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Maryland State Payroll Tax payments rejected this month

We double checked both numbers in QB and they were correct.  So we voided the rejected payments and resubmitted a second time, and "voila", they were accepted.  So it appears to have been a glitch on the State side.   I can't say I'm surprised because Maryland's tax systems are a royal pain to deal with and issues like this pop up from time to time.  Hopefully we are good for a while now.
