Migration Experiences: Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll

5-6 months ago it was obvious that Intuit was not prepared for the migration from IOP to QB Online Payroll. I've been holding out to end of 2021 calendar year to do my migration.

  • Has anyone had an easy migration?  The nature of the community is to seek help when you have problems, but I'm curious if anyone had it easy?

I'm trying to decide if I should simply open a new account at QB Online Payroll while keeping my Intuit Online Payroll active so that I can make sure I get 1099s and W9s out by the end of January.

If I ran into an issue, based on these forums and my past experiences with Inuit support, 30 days isn't enough time for them to solve anything.

Thanks for your feedback.

Your concern ends here, @jwilson88.

Migrating from Intuit Online Payroll (IOP) to QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP) is easy. You'll just want to make sure you have completed the IOP setup and are setting up an export to QBO. To know more about the process, you can check out this article: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

On the other hand, your idea of creating a new QBOP account is great if you want to keep your IOP account active by the end of January 2022. However, you'll need to start processing payroll to your new QBOP account by next year.

You might also want to learn more information on how to get started with QuickBooks Online Payroll. This article will provide you the detailed information: Get started with QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance migrating from IOP to QBOP. Wishing you all the best, @jwilson88.

Mark -

  1. Are you suggesting I should follow the instructions on the link you provided rather than using the "let's do it" link from Intuit Online Payroll?
  2. The article that you linked to was last updated in April 2021. While reviewing posts in this community, at first glance some of the steps/processes seemed to have changed or didn't work.  Can you confirm that old article from April 2021 is the most up to date instructions one should follow.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you for getting back to us. The instructions on the link given above are still the same facing with QuickBooks. I suggest following the steps on the link for the setup exportation.

On the other hand, you can contact our QuickBooks Support Team. They have the tools to check your account and help you with exporting your data.

Here's how to contact them:

  2. At the top right, click the Help icon.
  3. Choose the Assistant section.
  4. Type your concern in the Type something field.
  5. Click Talk to a human.
  6. Tap I still need a human.
  7. Press the Get help from a human.
  8. You'll be routed into the How can we help? page. Then, select callback or how you want to contact them and fill in the information.

You can browse this article to learn more about the different types of support we offer at Intuit and its availability: Support hours and types

Ours has been an absolute disaster.  Have you been able to get any support?  We were trying to get ours done before year end.  We still don't have any communication about the migration or a link to do it.
