Hi there, @dapperstachethea.

I'll share insights about mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed so you can calculate the deduction correctly.

Mileage and its deduction are calculated based on the mandate from the IRS. Upon checking the website, the official rate to calculate mileage deduction for July this year is not yet updated to the new one. This is the reason why it is still reporting using the old rate while tracking your mileage.

With this, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Support. You can work with one of our specialists online in updating your vehicle info to calculate the mileage deductions correctly. To do so:

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select Search.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter mileage deductions are not calculated correctly in the What can we help you with? text area.
  5. Choose Chat or Callback to connect with our team online.

Aside from calculating your mileage deductions, here is also a reference showing what other features and functions of QuickBooks are for you to use. You can log in to any of our supported browser versions and use this reference for guidance: Help Articles in QuickBooks Self-Employed. Also, you're able to read subtopics that will describe how a feature is used and how to accomplish tasks related to its functions.

This needs to be changed somehow. The new mileage rate was put in place in July. It is now October….

Hi there, User12345678910.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community.

As mentioned above, the Mileage deduction is calculated based on the mandate from the IRS. Then, the official rate to calculate mileage deduction is 62.5 cents effective July 1, 2022.

Since the new mileage rate was still put in July, I recommend tracking trips accurately by making sure auto-tracking is on in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Here's how to use iOS:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  2. Go to the Mileage menu. Then, choose Auto-tracking.
  3. Select the Auto-tracking toggle to turn it on.

After that, you'll have to review the general location setting for your iPhone or iPad. Ensure the QuickBooks Self-Employed app can run in the background. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Go to your iPhone or iPad's Settings.
  2. Scroll down and select the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  3. Select Location. Then, choose Always
  4. Turn on the Motion & FitnessBackground App Refresh, and Cellular Data options.
  5. Close your settings.

Additionally, if you're using the Android version, you can open this article to see the steps on how to fix unusual behavior: Fix mileage tracking issues in QuickBooks Self-Employed for iOS. Also, your mileage rates are up-to-date so you can always take advantage of the latest IRS deduction rates for your business vehicles.

If the issue continues to occur, you'll have to manually add or track a trip to QuickBooks Self-Employed. This is to ensure you can still record any mileage-related concerns. Then, I still recommend contacting our QuickBooks Self-Employed support team. They have the tools to pull up your account to see why the new mileage deduction still doesn't change.
