Hello there, @debbieannwentz.

Thanks for coming to the Community for help. I'd like to share some information about your 940 liability showing due in QuickBooks Online.

We received similar reports from other users like you having the same issue after creating the payment. Our Online Payroll Team is aware of it and is working to get a permanent fix for this unusual behavior.

You can get rid of the 940 liability showing on your payroll tasks by clicking the Create Payment button. Doing so will trigger the system to recalculate and remove the payment due.

In the meantime, please get in touch with our Online Payroll Team to add your account to the list of affected users. We will notify you through email once an update is received.

Here's how to reach phone support:

  1. Go to http://payroll.intuit.com/support/contact/.
  2. At the top right, select your Payroll Subscription type.
  3. Under the Free Live Help section, you'll see their contact information.

That should do it. Let me know how it goes after contacting them. Reach out to me if you have any other questions about payroll. I’m always here to help. Thanks for reaching out and take care!

When you create a payment, the pay period is very important. If your pay period showing 01/01/19 to 12/31/19, and you pay in September, you will still see the balance unpaid in a liability section.

Change the setup in a payroll setup, and make it a quarterly payment, instead of annual.
