My client is telling me that they can’t pay. Is there any way I can see what is wrong?

They can't pay because they have no money? O they cannot pay online through the invoice you sent? Do other clients pay the same way? About all you can do is see what your settings are in QB payment processing and you should be able to view the invoice email you sent to see if the payment link was enclosed
