"National Paid Leave Credit" auto assigned as Tax Type for Roth 401(k) and a few Garnishments... WHY??

I noticed that after I set up the National Paid Leave Credit Tax type that it was suddenly auto-assigned to a few of my other payroll items... and it makes NO sense to me:

  • Roth 401(k)
  • Two different Child Support garnishments

Anyone have any idea why this would happen?  Seems like a software problem when they ran the update.

See attached

Thank you for reaching out to the Quickbooks Community, Mellane. There are a few things I would like for you to check as we proceed further. The first things to check are your Roth 401k, and Child Support tax tracking type to see if it is correct. Here's how to view this :

  1.  Go to the Lists tab and select the Payroll Item List.
  2. By double-clicking on the specific item's name, it will open the edit payroll item window.
  3. Select Next twice to get to the Tax Tracking Type (TTT) window and verify the correct TTT is Roth 401(k) or Roth 403(b) or Roth 457(b).

If the tax tracking type is different, please contact our support team to unlock and fix this item. To contact us, follow these steps:

  1. Select F1 or the Help menu in your Quickbooks.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of the problem.
  4. Choose the Call Back Feature to connect with us.

For more information on how to set up Roth 401(k), this article is an excellent guide. The next step is ensuring the child support tax tracking type is accurate. The procedure would be the same as the Roth 401 (k), except the TTT should be None unless your accountant instructed otherwise. For reference, this link shows how a payroll garnishment item should be set up. Again, if this tax tracking type is not correct, please contact us to fix this issue.

If both of your items are accurate, the next phase would be to see if the National Paid Leave Credit is correctly setup. Make sure that you go over Step 4 and compare it. If the item is not set up correctly, create a new item with the steps in the article. After completing these steps and the problem persist, don't hesitate to reach back out to me. I'll be here to help.
