Need help with adjusting state unemployment tax after payroll has been run. Can I change?

State of FL RT-6 tax lists us as .0029 for tax. QBs listed 2.9%. State form shows $7.83 due 4/30. QBs says $78.30 due... We already paid $7.83 on 4/15. Can anyone help with how to make this correction so I can archive the correct amount in QB?

Welcome to the Community, @rosemary-augusti.

To change the state unemployment tax in your QBO account, you'll need first to delete the checks and recreate them after. When done, follow these steps to change the SUI rate:

  1. Go to the Gear then, click Payroll Settings.
  2. Choose State Tax or State Taxes under Taxes.
  3. Scroll down to the State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section.
  4. Input the new rate and the Effective Date.
  5. Select OK.

For more info about the process, please visit this article: Update your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate in QuickBooks or Intuit Payroll.

Just in case you don't see the option to change the SUI rate, you might using QuickBooks Online Payroll Full Service. To help you change the rate, you'll need to reach out to our Payroll support team.

Also, QBO has several ready-made reports that you can access to view your employee and business information. To get started, see this link: Run payroll reports.

Similar has happened to me.  What is the best way to make adjustments.  I need to reimburse the employee.

You'll need QBs phone support to adjust and send them a copy of your FL RT-6 tax doc that shows the .0029 percentage.  they have a hard time calculating it as I had the same problem - mine was .0010 and so what you already paid $7.83 is correct not the $78.   Unfortunately, we cannot change in the system ourselves, QBs thinks it's too low and inaccurate, hence why we can't change and they have to.  They will also recalculate any overage or under payments and adjust the system.  I've spent many hours and days in phone support and finally we went with a payroll system through our bank.  Much less headaches for the person handling.  Hope this helps.
