When the discontinuation occurs, your prior payroll data will be stored and opened and Payroll services will work as normal as long as your payroll subscription is active. Just make sure you don’t uninstall QuickBooks Desktop 2018 as you may experience issues finding an activation code.

Also, it's recommended to always create a backup copy of your company file to ensure you have an original copy that you can restore at any time in case of data loss or damage.

Thank you for reply but I don't understand your reply.  The Qb policy stated clearly all add-on services will discontinued, and I also received email telling me that my enhanced payroll services will discontinue on 5/31/2021 & I will not be able to use the service anymore. Your QuickBooks Desktop 218 will continue to work. However, paying employees using Direct Deposit and accessing other online services will be discontinued after May 31, 2021.

That being said, all previous payroll data will remain in your program. When it's time to pay employees, you need to create manual paychecks in QuickBooks.

Just make sure to always backup your company file since you'll no longer receive security updates starting June 1, 2021.

can someone please advise me on this

so quickbooks is being discontinued snd i use it to run a few small businesses, someone told me i can still use software but no longet send the vat returns so i can get a different way to do that but at least i can keep keying data then today im told no once subscription ends so if i stop paying the 31.20 a month then i can no longet open program at all ?

please help 

Welcome to the Community page, @liz1989. I'll shed light on the details regarding QuickBooks Desktop's discontinuation.

To clarify, are you using QuickBooks Desktop UK? If so, what year version is it? This will help me know which service and when your subscription will be affected by the discontinuation.

If you’re using QuickBooks Desktop for Windows 2019, the discontinuation was scheduled last May 31, 2022. This includes all versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, and Enterprise Solutions v19. This means you will no longer have access to add-on services including the submittion of vat returns.

If you’re not using any of the add-on services, the program will continue to function regularly. However, you’re unable to sign up for live technical support or any of the other Intuit services that work with QuickBooks Desktop. You won’t also receive security fixes or updates.

If you’re using QuickBooks Desktop 2021, it’s the final version that will be maintained until January 31, 2023. You’ll be fully supported until then. After this date, you’ll lose access to support, installation, and activation services to QuickBooks Desktop.

For customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the whole package will be removed. We’re also unable to launch a 2022 edition of QuickBooks Desktop.

Are you using QB Desktop UK version? You may have 2 options before January 2023:

1. If you are using QB Desktop 2020 or earlier, you can purchase a one-time license for QB Desktop 2020 UK. You can continue to use this version to manage clients who do not need to comply with MTD regulations.

2. If your client is required to comply with MTD regulations, you have no choice but to convert the data to QB Online UK version or another brand. You can purchase a third party conversion service if needed.

thanks for reply but its 2021 version so i think it will be unusable, im not worried about support or using other software for the vat returns

If your client is using QB Desktop 2021 UK version and does not comply with MTD regulations, consider converting their data to QB Desktop US or CA version. You can purchase a third-party conversion service and a one-time license for QB Desktop 2021 US or CA version if needed.
