Let's get this fix by ensuring you've installed the latest tax table and have the updated QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release before running payroll to keep your taxes updated.
To update QuickBooks to the latest version, here's how:
- Go to the File menu at the top.
- Then, Close Company/Logoff.
- Go back to the File menu and choose Exit.
- Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon on your desktop, then select Run as administrator.
- While on the No Company Open screen, pick Update QuickBooks from the Help menu.
- In the Options tab, choose Mark All and Save.
- Mark the Reset Update box in the Update Now tab.
- Click the Get Updates button.
- Once the Update Complete appears, close and re-open the program.
- If you get the message to install update, select Yes. Restart your computer after the installation.
When done, proceed by downloading the latest tax table update:
- Go to the Employees menu at the top.
- Tap Get Payroll Updates.
- Choose the Download Entire Update radio button.
- Hit on Download Latest Update.
- When the download is complete, click on OK.
Also, review the employee's tax setup since it affects how QuickBooks calculates it.
Once finished, revert pending paychecks and enter hours for the taxes to calculate. Doing so will refresh your payroll information to calculate the taxes on the transaction.
To revert, here's how:
- Open your employee's Payroll Information.
- Right-click the name of your employee which highlighted in yellow.
- Select Revert Paycheck
