Paychecks Posted from the Wrong Account

I have found, scattered through the last couple of years pay checks posted to a savings account although the paychecks were written from a checking account. I tried the following:

  1. On the left panel, click Transactions and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Choose the wrong account, and click View register.
  3. Select the payment in question, and click Edit.
  4. I found the check which was entirely gray, then clicked "edit", a page opens up that says "select the check you would would like to . . . " but before anything can be done/almost immediately up comes the check, and it says "paid from savings" with NO editable fields.
  5. Change the posting account, and click Save and close. (This is not a possibility.)
  6. Click Yes.

Can this be corrected?

  1. I have never paid  anything out of savings. Other than interest income the only other entries are these random paychecks, both written & direct deposited and a couple of tax payments.

Paychecks Posted from the Wrong Account

You can delete and recreate the paycheck to change the posting account, OldFatDog.

Let me guide you through the steps in deleting the paycheck:

  1. Select Workers, then Employees.
  2. Select Paycheck List under Run Payroll,
  3. Change the date range if necessary. Then select the pay checks you want to delete.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. Mark the checkmark box to confirm the deletion. Then select Delete Paycheck.

Once done, recreate the paycheck with the correct account. Please see this article for more information and the detailed steps: How Do I Create A Paycheck For An Employee?

You can also run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online so you'll be able to check the correct posting account. Please visit this article: Run Payroll Reports.
