Payroll Accounting

I need to expense some of my employees wages to multiple accounts in the general ledger.  Can this be done in Online Payroll Core?

Great having you join us here in the Community, @nancydevnext. I’ll address your concern about allocating payroll wages to different accounts in QuickBooks Online Core.

You can allocate to the Accounting menu located at the bottom of the Payroll Settings page when using the QBO Core payroll plan. This way, you can manage your employees’ wages to multiple accounts in the general ledger.

Please see the screenshot below for your reference.

Otherwise, if you need assistance with your payroll settings, I’d suggest reaching out to our Payroll Support Team. They can securely verify your account, check your payroll settings, and guide you with a fix.

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Choose a way to connect with us (Send a message or Get a callback). Make sure to initiate contact during support hours.

To know more about managing your payroll accounting preferences in QBO, you can refer to this article: Payroll accounting preferences.

Additionally, you can check this link for further details if you might want to set up your new QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite payroll service.

Also, here's an article that'll further guide you in managing your payroll account and transactions: QuickBooks Online Payroll Help Articles. It includes topics about subscription management, setting up and editing payroll, and benefits, to name a few.

I'll be glad to help you if you have any other payroll concerns. Thanks for dropping by, wishing you a good one!

Thank you Carneil_C for this direction.  Do you know if I can actually charge an employee's wages to multiple accounts?  For example. I have one of my employees that I need to split his wages between 4 different ledger accounts.

Thanks for the prompt response, @nancydevnext. Let me provide additional information about splitting wages for a single employee in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

With regards to this matter, you can allocate a payroll item to one expense account. This option is exclusive for QuickBooks Online Enhanced Payroll.

If you have subscribed to QuickBooks Online Core, Elite, and other Payroll services. I recommend contacting our Technical Support team for further assistance. Open this article for the steps: Contact Payroll Support

Additionally, to keep track of your payroll transactions, see this article to learn about managing your payroll accounting settings.

If there's anything else I can do to help besides payroll wages, feel free to post here anytime. Take care and have a great day!

Kevin_C thank you for the additional information.  I may need to look into upgrading my payroll subscription.
