Payroll classes

We use Enterprise Contractor edition.  Classes are used to assign revenue and costs to the branches.  Each employee is classed to their home branch.  When an employee goes to a different branch to work on a job, the time sheet is assigned to the branch where the job is.  The time sheets are classed correctly but recently, when payroll has been processed, the class has defaulted back to the home branch for the employee instead of the location of the job.  The confusing thing is, it hasn't occurred on all the employees who have worked away from their home branch.  I wouldn't think the program could arbitrarily decide to change some and not the others. I have been able to manually correct after payroll has processed and even pulled the time sheets again and the classes remained correct.  Is anyone else having this issue?  We have been sharing employees from other branches for a number of years now and haven't come across this before.

Hi there, @VISal.

It's great having you join us here in the Community. As of now, there are no similar concerns posted on the Community page about the assigned timesheet being defaulted back after running payroll.

There might be a data issue in your company file that's causing this unexpected behavior. To clear this out, let's update QuickBooks Desktop to its latest release. This can help fix some minor file issues within the program. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Update Now tab.
  3. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. Once prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

If you're still getting the same behavior, let's run the Verify and Rebuild data tools. These tools will help us identify if the problems are within the company file and fix it.

If the issue persists, use the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix your company file.

Additionally, here are some references that you can use regarding the timesheet:

Let us know how this goes so we can further review the situation. Have a great day!
