Welcome to the Community, pattiy.

If you're trying to import payroll transactions via IIF format into QuickBooks Online, the option to do so is unavailable.

However, if you're trying to export payroll data from the program with an IIF format so you can provide it to the said payroll company, we can set the payroll preferences in your QuickBooks Online and export the data. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon ⚙ then select Payroll Settings.
  2. Next to Export select Edit ✎.
  3. Choose where you want to export your payroll transactions. You can choose QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac using a downloadable IIF (Intuit Interchange Format) file or QuickBooks Online which sends data directly to your QuickBooks account. Select Continue.
    • If you choose to export to QuickBooks Online. You may be prompted to sign in and select the company you want to export to.
  4. Complete the fields by adding the name of each account you are exporting your liabilities and expenses to. We recommend that you have a copy of your QuickBooks Chart of Accounts handy.
  5. Hit Done twice.

After that, we can proceed with exporting IIF payroll data in QuickBooks Online. We can refer to this article for the detailed steps (proceed to Step 2): Export your payroll data into QuickBooks.

As always, feel free to visit our Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop in case you need tips and payroll-related articles in the future.

I'm always around to lend a hand if you have more questions about payroll or anything with QuickBooks. Just tag my name in the comment section so I can assist you further. Take care and have a good one, pattiy.

Another option, prepare your payroll data as JE with the following template

RefNumberTxnDatePrivateNoteIsAdjustmentCurrencyExchangeRateAccountLineAmountLineDescEntityClassLocation
10101/10/2020Wire TransferFALSE  Savings-50.00Credit Savings
10101/10/2020Wire TransferFALSE  Checking50.00Debit Checking
10201/10/2020Wire TransferFALSE  Savings200.00Debit Savings
10201/10/2020Wire TransferFALSE  Checking-200.00Credit Checking

then utilize an importer tool to proceed
