Payroll reports

I filed a zero payroll report for 1st quarter, second quarter it will not allow me to file a report...says no payroll this year!  IRS rules is that you file a report for EVERY quarter.

Just tried to print a first quarter PR report....on the report in all caps "DO NOT FILE-IRS WILL NOT ACCEPT-FORMS FOR QUARTERS 2-4.

I am an accountant and I file past due and current forms...if I can not do this in Quickbooks any longer, can someone give me suggestions on different software.  I have only been doing accounting for 50 years and taxes for 40 years.    Thanks for any help

Payroll reports

Hello, @jbtax9.

We've been receiving reports from customers like you who were unable to print their 941 forms. Also, you'd get a prompt when trying to load the Fed 941 with no wages paid for the year. Currently, our Product Engineers are working on an investigation (INV - 48016) so we can release an update to get rid of this error.

In the meantime, you can create an employee liability adjustment or a 0 Net check which will be deleted after pulling up the form. On the paycheck, add a penny rate and a deduction with the same amount to get a zero net pay. See this:

Make sure the date of the check matches the period you are printing. Next, pull up the report in the File Forms window. The 941 forms should open a zero wage form like this:

Also, I'd recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team so you'd be added to the affected users' list. Just provide your name, updated email address, and the investigation number.

Here's how;

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click the Contact Us button.
  4. Enter a short description of your concerns under the Ask a question field.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Select Get a callback.
  7. From here you can choose to schedule a callback for a time that is convenient for you.

You can see their hours of operation from this article: Support hours and types.

Lastly, you can read through this resource for the latest payroll news and updates: Latest Payroll news and updates.

Leave a post below if you have more questions about managing your payroll or anything else related to QuickBooks. I'd be glad to help. Take care and stay safe always.

Payroll reports

There is a brand new form for Q2 onward and you cannot use the same form from Q1. The new form has line items for paid leave credits and retention credits even if you are not subject to those.

Check for payroll updates as itvsounds like you are not current or the new form would already be in place
