Payroll schedules

I'd like to change the dates of my payroll. When I edited the schedule to end 1 day later (Friday instead of Thursday) it didn't include the first day of the next payroll which in this case would be the 3rd of April how can i change this without loosing a day somewhere in the process?

Right now my payroll ends on a Thursday and we would like it to end on a Friday instead.  Hopefully this makes sense.

Thank you!

Hello aubreir,

You'll want to directly modify the pay schedule under Pay Employees > Pay Schedules to affect all upcoming payroll schedules.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the Employees Payroll Center.
  2. Under Create Paychecks, select the Payroll Schedule drop-down.
  3. Choose Edit Schedule.
  4. Modify the date in the Edit Payroll Schedule window. Note: Select Yes to update the payroll schedule for all the employees assigned to it if you are prompted.
  5. Hit the OK button.

This article includes a video tutorial for more details: Set up and manage payroll schedules.

I'll be around if you have any additional questions. Take care.

Payroll schedules

Thanks for your reply, however I had tried this method however doing this eliminates one the the days, and therefore doesn't account for everyone being paid on the 3rd.  So currently my next payroll period would be 4/3-4/16 so when I change the payroll to end on Friday instead of Thursday the payroll period is now 4/4-4/17 so I need to know how I will be able to account for the pay on the 3rd if I go ahead and edit the schedule.

Thanks

Thanks for getting back to us, aubreir.

I recommend creating a new pay schedule instead. This will include the 3rd day of the month for the new set up. Here's how:

  1. Click Employees on the menu.
  2. Select Payroll Center.
  3. Go to the Pay Employees tab.
  4. From the Payroll Schedules drop-down menu, select New.
  5. Enter a name for the payroll schedule in the What do you want to name this payroll schedule?
  6. From the How often will you pay your employees on this schedule? drop-down, choose the pay frequency for the payroll schedule.
  7. Select OK.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

Thanks again for the reply, however doing this still kicks out the 3rd of April and automatically starts on the 4th.  Is there a setting I need to change somewhere to change the amount of days in the pay period?

Thanks

Thanks for your reply, however when I tried this it still kicks out that first day so the 3rd isn't accounted for.  Is there a way to change the amount of days in a pay period maybe a setting I need to adjust.

Thanks

Hello @aubreir,

As of the moment, there isn't an option to change the number of days included in a pay schedule. You'll want to follow the steps shared by my colleague, @MaryLurleenMcreate a new pay schedule and manually select April 2 at the What is the pay period end date? field so the next pay schedule will start on April 3.

I've got you this helpful article for reference in case your payroll has incorrect paycheck dates: Incorrect pay period dates in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.
