If I only used Quick books for payroll, can I just buy a new payroll enhanched version rather than renewing my subscription?
Hi there, @loribaylor.
To use QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, you'll need to have QuickBooks Pro, Premier, or Enterprise 2017 or newer as part of the payroll requirements. And to answer your questions, yes, you can subscribe to a new payroll subscription. To do so, here's how:

Thanks, but I need to get you more info. I have QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020 with payroll enhanced. I got an email with a renewal subscription cost of almost $500. I can buy an new payroll enhanced program for less than $300. Previously I have just been buying a whole new Desktop Pro each year, but I am wondering if I could just buy the payroll enhanced program and that would take care of my payroll needs for 2021.
Thank you for the response, but I wanted to give you a little more info. I do have Quickbooks Pro 2020 with payroll enhanced. I got an email with my payroll renewal of almost $500, I can buy a payroll enhanced version for less than $300. Previously the last few years, I just buy a whole new desktop Pro version, but I wonder if I could just buy the enhanced payroll program and that will take care of my payroll needs for 2021
Thanks for the additional information, loribaylor.
We can switch your payroll subscription to Payroll Enhanced, and you'll have the option to pay it annually.
You can follow the steps shared by MirriamM on how we can switch the subscription.

So I too am tired of the high priced payroll subscription renewals. I have just been buying a new version of QB pro with enhanced payroll each year because that has been cheaper than the payroll renewal fees.
However this year with Intuits push for Pro Plus versions ( I hate subscription based stuff) i did not do that.
So if I'm understanding this correctly I can just buy an old copy of QB pro 2019 with payroll enhanced off of ebay, throw the QB part away and use the payroll service key with my QB Pro 2020 and I'm good to go??
I’ve got you covered, @freddy2.
I can see the impact of this subscription renewal on you and other payroll users. At the moment, the QuickBooks Product License and Payroll Service Key are tied up when activating. That means using the payroll service key with your QuickBooks Pro 2020 isn’t possible.
It would be best to contact our Payroll specialist to check this matter for you. They can help and provide the best options to prevent higher fees. Here’s how:

So if I'm happy with QB Pro 2020 desktop and don't want to move into Pro Plus can I just buy a new copy of QB Pro 2020 that includes enhanced payroll ? Then I would deactivate my current QB Pro 2020 and install the new copy (of exactly the same version I'm currently running) and then I can use the new key code for the enhanced payroll. I can do that for a whole lot less money than just letting my current payroll subscription renew!
Yes, you can subscribe to a new account and payroll. I'd like to route you to our Phone Support Team so they can help you with migrating your company files and subscribing to the new account. They can also provide the full billing charges you'll be paying.
