payroll tax

My client apparently never filed Form 941s for 2018, 2019 and 2020 although he has QB payroll and thought QB was e-filing them.  (They do not appear in the e-filings history).

Can I go back in his QB file and print those old 941s?  I cannot find a way to do that.

payroll tax

Glad to have you here in the Community, @Bob32960.

I've got some ideas about filing 941 forms for prior years in QuickBooks.

QuickBooks Desktop can only e-file forms for the current year. To get your work done, download the 941 forms from the IRS website. Then manually enter the information and print the said forms. Let's just make sure to select the correct quarter and file it manually to the IRS.

You'll get the information by pulling up a tax form worksheet in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Choose Reports at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Employees & Payroll.
  3. Click on More Payroll Reports in Excel.
  4. Choose Tax Form Worksheets
  5. An Excel file will open and hit on Enable Edit at the top.
  6. Click Quarterly 941 on the QuickBooks Tax Worksheet window.
  7. Select the correct date range and press on Create Report

Please refer to this article for more details: Excel-based payroll reports.

In case you'll need to e-file the 941 tax form in QuickBooks, simply refer to this resource: How to e-file Federal Forms.

I'm just a post away if you have any other questions about payroll forms in QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be happy to help you out. Have a pleasant day.
