payroll tax

Our server got hacked and I lost 3 weeks of data. I am planning to reenter the payroll and wonder how I will show the payroll taxes as paid. Especially the weekly IRS witholdings that are paid electronically. We pay them every week. Any ideas?

payroll tax

I've got you covered, 49er54.

I have the steps here to show payroll taxes already paid in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let's ensure that you have the latest payroll tax table update. There are two ways to record tax payments. You have the option to enter historical tax payments in QuickBooks Desktop. This helps ensure that your future tax deposits and filings are accurate.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then About QuickBooks.
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Y or Ctrl + Shift + Y to open the Setup YTD Amounts window.
  3. Click Next until you reach the Enter Prior payment section.
  4. In the Enter Prior Payments window, select Create Payment to enter all prior payroll tax and non-tax payroll liability payments you've made.
  5. Ensure to enter the correct Payment Date and For Period Ending date.
  6. In the Taxes and Liabilities field, choose the payroll tax item that you've already paid, then enter the amount.
  7. You can add memo information " paid through epay" to easy tracking.
  8. Choose the Accounts Affected... button. This displays options for how you want the payment to affect your Chart of Accounts (COA).
  9. Once done, you can click Next Payment to continue with the other payments.
  10. Repeat the same process with all other payments already paid, hit Finish to close the window.

For your reference, you can visit this article for more details: Enter historical tax payments in Desktop payroll.

On the other hand, you can record the payment through the Payroll Center. When you reenter or rerun your payroll, you'll have the option to disable the epay. Then open the liability check> select Check radio button> enter epay in the Check number. Refer to this resource for more insights: How to use QuickBooks to pay payroll taxes and other liabilities.

In addition, you can run the report listed below if you want to see an overview of the payroll amounts and tax balances:

As always, don't hesitate to add any details below if you have other questions about taxes or payroll. We're here to help you and guide you again.
