payroll w-2 employee cost question...

hi, i just swtiched from qbd-mac to qbo with payroll core...

on qbd-mac i did 1099's for independent contractors, but now I need to add 1 employee...

questions:

- will I be charged an extra $4/mo in payroll for using only 1 employee?

- will I be charged extra for my 1099's as well, or can I do that outside of payroll as I used to do it, and file them electronically through qb?

Hi Todd,

 

Yes, you will be chagerd for $4/month extra even if you only have one employee.

 

Normally for the 1099, you will have a separate charge if you send them electronically. However, I would recommend checking your account with the Support team to see if your subscription includes the free 1099 efile, as stated in this article: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/payroll/1099-efile/. The team has access to billing and subscriptions.

You can create and E-file unlimited 1099 forms in QuickBooks payroll. Also, there is a charge of $4/employee per month.

 

Check this article to know more about QuickBooks Payroll and 1099 E-file Service.

 

Additionally, learn about your state's requirements for filing 1099s.

hi ethel, thanks for our reply, i'm still a little unclear...

 

my situation:

- I have 1 w-2 salaried employee who needs a w-2 and withholding taxes

- I have 5 independent contractors who will need 1099's at the end of the year

 

my 2 questions:

question 1) will my payroll extra monthly fee be 1 x $4 = only $4 a month extra?

question 2) do I pay my independent contractors as I always have (outside of payroll) and then use qb to help me file the 1099s?
