When printing checks for payroll what do I need? Special checks, special  ink, special printer? Can i choose to hand write the checks instead of printing? What is the difference between Desktop  payroll and doing it online?

You can have the pre-printed checks by purchasing them through this link: https://intuitmarket.intuit.com/checks

No. You can use any printer. And if you want to write out the checks by hand, you can do that as well. Just record it in your QuickBooks.
