Buy nowI recently migrated from QB Desktop to QB Online. Under Payroll, I see several states in which I do not have any active employees (past, released and deactivated employees worked in those states in previous years).
Under Taxes, I see that QB is automatically filing for me tax returns in those spurious states. This happens although automatic filing and payments are disabled.
I spent 8 hours on the phone with 4 different QB support representatives, but they don't know how to disable and remove the spurious states, nor how to stop the spurious filing of tax returns in those states.
Can anyone help?

@Mark_R, Thank you for your response. I hope that your administrators will indeed follow up and contact me with a solution to these problems in the nearest term. It has been 12 days since I reported the issues to Intuit but no one has followed up in spite of several promises to do so.
In the meantime I am not using QB at all (and not able to process payroll) for fear that these issues, which appear to be major bugs in QB Online, cannot be fixed in the near term, and I will have to go back to using QB Desktop.
I am having the same issue.
Was your issue resolved? I can not find any help. Did you find another program to switch to that you would recommend? Quickbooks online is the absolute worst!
I'm also looking for a solution to the same exact problem. If there was a solution, can you please share? Thanks in advance.
I understand that this situation may have caused you frustration, and I want to reassure you that we are committed to finding a solution, lawserver.
Let's verify if the work location is accurate. An incorrect work location can lead to the wrong state showing on payroll and tax information being displayed.
If it's accurate, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Payroll Support to access your account and assist you further in troubleshooting this issue.
Additionally, you can utilize the payroll reporting features in QBO. These reports allow you to handle payroll taxes and keep track of employee expenses efficiently.
